The stone building was dark inside, fetid with a rich stink, echoing with prodigious roars & slow, vicious snarls that seemed to issue from the earth itself. I walked the cement corridor between rows of narrow, thick-barred cages and watched the mad-eyed leopards pace. At feeding time, the keepers casually threw in huge slabs of meat for the big cats to devour.
In this inferno the golden-eyed lion calmly lifted his head into sun light. |
