None of us called ourselves hippies, except ironically. Avoidable or not, we were genuinely poor. Women like Pam had few things, which tended to be brightly colored. And I'm not getting nostalgic about it. North coast nights were cold. Pam's babies, like everybody's babies, needed shoes. On the other hand, I doubt having a designer wardrobe & two cell phones would have helped.
